CGA Alberta Goes Green

Economic downturns often create environments where innovation and entrepreneurs can flourish, and today is no exception.  Demands for increased processing power, reduced power consumption, and environmentally friendly solutions are pushing the limits of how we currently view the way we work and play.

Alberta’s own “Userful” Corporation (recently voted one of Alberta’s 10th fastest growing companies under $20 million) are bringing affordable green desktop computing to millions of users worldwide. Their recent announcement involves their partnership with ThinNetworks for the supply of 356,800 virtualized desktops to schools in all of Brazil’s 5,560 municipalities.

“Turning 1 computer into 10 reduces computer hardware waste ‘e-waste’ by up to 80%, further decreasing its environmental footprint. Userful is very happy to have been selected to participate in this historic opportunity to help millions of children get the computer education they need in a sustainable way,” said Tim Griffin, President of Userful.

Economic downturns force us to rethink everything we do and technology innovation can be a key contributor in the solutions to those challenges.   Here at CGA Alberta, we are employing similar technology that reduces our hardware footprint by almost 60%, allowing us to “green up” along with the best of them.

Commitment to reducing our footprint

Did you know:

  • 1 recycled tin can would save enough energy to power a television for 3 hours.
  • 1 recycled glass bottle would save enough energy to power a computer for 25 minutes.
  • 1 recycled plastic bottle would save enough energy to power a 60-watt light bulb for 3 hours.
  • 70% less energy is required to recycle paper compared with making it from raw materials.

Recycling is an excellent way of saving energy and conserving the environment. CGA Alberta is doing its part to become more environmentally responsible in 2009 by implementing paper, plastic and metal recycling programs at our location.
